  • With the constant search for the next big sport- it can be said that the influence of fashion in sportswear and vice versa is here to stay.

  • Drawing inspiration from regular habits such as going to spin class or hiking has made way for newer trends and approachable.

  • Tiktok trends might be short-lived but shouldn’t be ignored and one such example is Bloke-core, it is a niche but includes basic silhouettes such as the soccer jersey.

  • Sportswear is often linked to functional clothing thus making Cloudwear a classic yet stylish addition. Quilted clothing, rainproof fabrics and a little pop of colour makes this trend interesting and relevant to a die hard sports fan as well as a fashion enthusiast.

Ballet Core

We’ve seen for quite some time now the popularization of sports like yoga, pilates, or barre classes. The practices might be hundreds of years old yet the switch to low-impact workouts has been on the rise for a few years now. Exercises like pilates or barre classes come from practices such as ballet or gymnastics and are therefore stereotypically quite feminine.

Their popularization has been an amazing opportunity for expansion for the activewear market, allowing women to drive growth and create more segmentation into brand’s offer.

Industry giants and indie brands alike have tapped into this demographic by fostering a “made for women” niche that only keeps growing.

This segment has permitted an acceleration of the adoption of conventional fashion trends into the activewear segment. Firstly, because through social media we’re also able to follow the sports outfits of Gen Z’s favorite fashion figures like Hailey Bieber or Kendall Jenner. And in an era where working out is seen as a part of your holistic lifestyle, your workout style cannot be too much detached from your daily one.

Also, TikTok and its multiple aesthetics has also been an impactful canal to produce new stories and tribes that can be then translated in this fertile ground that is athleisure. We now see runway elements casted from the runway like the cottage core, lingerie dressing and Y2K being infused in sports collection

Game On

Over the last few years the home workout experience has went through a significant evolution. If it started with amateur Youtube videos it got more and more sophisticated with the surge of automation and connected gear. In recent years, Covid and global lockdowns amplified the phenomenon, with people being forced to achieve their physical goals in the comfort of their own home.

Tools like Peloton or Tonal have seen their popularity grow within the past two years. If Peloton is more centered around indoor biking and Tonal around strength training they are both from this new generation of smart home gyms that offer elevated personalized guidance

guidance with thousands of classes in the comfort of your own home.

Also the growing discussion around the metaverse and the Web 3.0 gives a new meaning to one’s digital projection and with that comes a new sense of fashion.

If we’re working out at home, do we need to dress up ? And if we do, how does this gamified universe inspire us to do so?

In this internet/flex culture, we still want our physical gains to show but we have now to envision it through the prism of screens and dark rooms lighten up by neons.

Bloke Core

The Bloke Core seems to be one of TikTok’s latest trend with a genesis that we can trace back to... december when Brandon Huntley amusingly “started to get back into jersey soccer”. From then, people followed, the algorithm also and the rest is Bloke history.

The term bloke is the slang term defining a regular, lambda guy from U.K., South Africa, or Ireland pr Australia. Therefore, the bloke core aesthetic comes a bit as an American mockery made off of those British supporters that doesn’t seem to be able to make a step without their favorite team’s jersey on their back.

To complete the look, don’t try to hard and consider a jersey of some sorts (don’t even need to know the team) and Adidas Sambas your core assets.

But the trend didn’t just pop out TikTok without previous clues. In the world of high fashion, the likes of Gucci and Wales Bonner have collaborated with Adidas on collections that honour the brand's footballing past, dropping pitch-ready tracksuits and fresh takes on classic footy-inspired sneakers like the Samba. The latest notable collaboration being with Balenciaga for their Resort 2023 collection.

Meanwhile, streetwear brands like Palace have teamed up with Italian sportswear brand Kappa on a FW collection immortalizing 1990s British football and rave culture.

To celebrate Venezia return to

Serie A, Kappa collaborated with the club to create

jerseys that are meant to be also worn off the field.

Cloud Wear

Cloudwear describes the trend of dressing in puffy, enveloping silhouettes that started back in 2020. Although the pandemic began two years ago, the remnants of the comfort dressing craze is still visible through the sustained relevance of cloudwear. After experiencing the loss of physical touch throughout the pandemic, many people have gained a renewed appreciation of tactile materials, as touch is one sense that cannot be replaced digitally.

FW 22 fashion weeks included a plethora of comforting, voluminous silhouettes indicating that the cloudwear trend will remain in fashion as we approach the cold seasons of this year.

Fur, quilted materials, fleece, velvet, and all types of knitwear are the key elements of the theme, which is primarily defined by texture and puffy shapes. In terms of colors, the cloudwear trend began in a primarily neutral palette, however now brands are turning to pops of color and metallic tones which, when combined with XL volumes, creates a bold fashion statement.

Silhouettes like puffer jackets, quilted pants, ponchos, padded shoes, knit loungewear sets, and even quilted handbags are some of the key trends that evoke the theme. Luxury, massmarket, and niche brands are all proposing garments in the realm of cloudwear, making it a versatile trend that can attract a diverse range of consumers.
